Types and advantages of composite panels

Composite board is a new type of thermal insulation material, which is increasingly used in our daily life. Composite panels are usually divided into the following categories.

Polyurethane (PUR)

Polyurethane is a rigid foam made by mixing the main components “polyol and isocyanate” with catalyst materials under high pressure and special production conditions.

Polyurethane has a closed cell structure, which ensures excellent thermal insulation, high dimensional stability, and does not absorb water. It does not produce bacteria. Due to its high compressive strength, its mechanical properties are very high.

Polyisocyanurate (PIR)

When the main components of polyurethane foam undergo chemical reactions in different mixing amounts, a new macromolecular structure is formed, called polyisocyanurate. Polyisocyanurate rigid foam is a type of polyurethane, which has higher fire resistance due to its different structure. Compared with polyurethane, there is very little smoke formation in the event of a fire.

Mineral wool

Mineral wool is a general term for fibers obtained by melting inorganic rocks and other inorganic oxides at high temperatures. With its fibrous and open-cell structure, mineral wool is an ideal choice for your construction in terms of sound insulation and fire resistance. When conducting thermal insulation, it has a lower insulation value than PUR and PIR.

The mineral wool in the sandwich board is cut into thin slices in our fully automatic production equipment, and its fibers are used in a position perpendicular to the surface of the board. Therefore, the pressure resistance of the panel increases, and its mechanical value increases.

You may prefer to use mineral wool insulation materials, especially for buildings that require high sound insulation or for buildings with fire hazards, or for any building that stores flammable/explosive materials.

Expanded polystyrene (EPS)

Expanded polystyrene is a thermoplastic material and a derivative of petroleum. First, the polystyrene raw material with a fine particle structure is heated and expanded with water vapor. Pentane gas is an organic component used to expand particles. After the inflation process, the polystyrene particles adhere firmly to each other and assume the shape of the mold they are in. Finally, after shaping it into a block, expanded polystyrene can be used by cutting it into thin slices.

At the end of this process, pentane gas replaced air. This static dry air is trapped in fine particles with small holes, so that the EPS board can provide excellent thermal insulation for the building.

EPS is the most economical and lightest product among all types of insulation materials.
